It's always worth pointing out that weaving a handcrafted Mexican hammock is a complex process. Each of our hammocks is meticulously handcrafted in the Chiapas regions of southern Mexico. To build these Mayan hammocks, our craftsmen use yarns of various colors, with the aid of needles and wooden frames known as looms.

Our EXTRA LARGE Mexican hammock measures 2.20 meters wide for a total length of 4 meters. These dimensions are customary in Mexico, and are often the hallmark of genuine Mexican hammocks. This hammock is the result of a particular weaving technique, and few weavers in Mexico are capable of creating what they call over there: a Mayan Queen.

The first hammocks were made from agave

There was a time when Chiapas was renowned for the production of Ixtle and Henequen, plants that were used to weave the first hammocks. We wrote an article over a year ago about Don Gustavo, a 90-year-old Mexican craftsman who was still making hammocks from Ixtle fiber. Touched by our article, his grand-nephew wrote to tell us how proud he was that we were talking about his "grandfather". In February 2023, he contacted us to report his death.
